2008 November > 100th Birthday Celebration! October 6th welcomed in the 100th birthday of Mississauga’s very own Hermine. Residents of the Speciality Care Centre gathered together to celebrate her birthday. They started the day by gathering around the piano and playing songs for Hermine. Then they continued the celebration by going over Hermine’s life, decade by decade. SNAP learned that, in the year Hermine was born, the average hourly wage was 22 cents an hour and stamps cost 2 cents each! Originally from England. Hermine moved to Canada where she designed clothing and even owned her own yarn shop in Montreal. Hermine had a great life and, although she did not have any children, she has close nieces and nephews who have come to celebrate her birthday with her. Hermine is a great example for all to live by as she lived on her own until she was 95 and has truly had a very full life.
