Loving Memory Tree

More than 300 people attended the annual Bereaved Families of Ontario/Halton-Peel Loving Memory Tree ceremony at the Mississauga Civic Centre on December 7th. The occasion was an opportunity for those who attended to pay tribute to loved ones who have died and who are missed at this time of year. The evening included a guest speaker, music, a video display of names and photos of lost loved ones, and finally the illumination of an 18 ft. tree where each white light represents a loss of a loved one. The highlight of the night was guest speaker Betty-Lou Kristy who shared with the audience her struggles with alcoholism and the tragic loss of her late son Peter. About midway through the evening, there was a moment of silence which was broken only by sounds of bagpipes. The Bereaved Families of Ontario/Halton Peel is a non-profit, charitable organization offering compassion and care for people dealing with the death of a loved one.
