Open Sunday at Old Britannia Schoolhouse
Stepping through the doors of the Old Britannia Schoolhouse was like travelling back in time to a place where slates and chalk assume the role of paper and pencil, the 'dunce cap' is used instead of detentions and morning routines heard voices singing 'God Save the Queen'. On March 14th, Friends of The Old Britannia Schoolhouse hosted their monthly Open Sunday event. Visitors were invited to explore an assortment of vintage games and toys on display at the schoolhouse. In addition, volunteers were on hand to share interesting stories and details about the heritage site. Operational as a schoolhouse from the mid-1800's to mid-1900's, the building currently serves to provide elementary and secondary students with a 'living history lesson'. Each Open Sunday event is open to the community and features a different theme.
